Samsung TV Error 107: Read the Network Status X First

The red X and a phone-hotspot test separate TV, router, ISP and Smart Hub before reset.

Safety note: Disconnect the TV or display before replacing a damaged cable. Do not open the power supply or backlight, and stop at a burning smell or cracked panel.

For Samsung TV Error 107, read the red X in Network Status before changing DNS. An X between the TV and router points to Wi-Fi, password or local-network trouble. An X between the router and internet icon points to the router or ISP. If both links pass but Smart Hub still fails, run the Smart Hub Connection Test and investigate DNS, software or the Samsung service path.

Samsung TV Error 107 is commonly encountered when Smart Hub cannot complete an online connection. The number alone does not prove that DNS is wrong or that the TV needs a factory reset. A more useful diagnosis comes from three observations: where Network Status fails, whether another network works, and whether the whole TV is offline or only Smart Hub apps are affected.

Turn Network Status into a map

Open Settings, then Network or Connection → Network → Network Status. Menu wording varies by year. Samsung’s network self-diagnosis guide explains the two critical positions:

  • X between TV and router: the TV has not joined the local network reliably.
  • X between router and Earth/internet: the local network exists, but the router is not reaching the ISP.
  • Both links connected: basic connectivity passes; test Smart Hub and the affected app path.

Restart the network in the order data travels

Turn the TV off and unplug it. Power off the router and modem or gateway. Wait about a minute, then start the modem first, wait until its internet connection is stable, start the router if separate, and finally reconnect the TV. This order matters because powering the TV before the router has internet can reproduce the same failed session.

On the TV, forget the saved Wi-Fi profile and enter the password manually. Watch for uppercase letters, spaces and similar-looking characters. If the router or ISP was changed recently, use Reset Network rather than resetting the whole TV. Samsung’s current network reset instructions show that this clears connection settings and then returns you to Open Network Settings.

The hotspot test is the fastest A/B comparison

Create a temporary hotspot on a phone, place it near the TV and connect the TV to it. Keep mobile data active so the hotspot has internet. If Error 107 disappears and Smart Hub opens, the TV can reach an online network; focus on the home router, ISP settings or compatibility. If the TV fails on both the home network and hotspot, update the TV and continue with Smart Hub diagnostics.

Samsung’s Wi-Fi troubleshooting flow uses a different network for exactly this separation and notes that a TV connecting elsewhere does not need service for its Wi-Fi hardware.

Use DNS only after proving the layer

Leave IP and DNS on automatic for the first test. If Network Status reaches the router and other devices have internet but Smart Hub still cannot resolve services, open IP Settings and record the current values. A temporary manual DNS test can be useful; Samsung documents 8.8.8.8 in its app error procedure. Treat the result as evidence, not a permanent ritual:

  • If manual DNS works immediately, review the router or ISP DNS service.
  • If it changes nothing, return to automatic so future network changes are not masked.
  • If the TV has no valid IP or gateway, DNS is downstream of the real problem.

For a broader connection failure without Error 107, compare our Samsung TV Wi-Fi Network Status guide. It focuses on the same local-versus-internet split without assuming Smart Hub is the only symptom.

When the network passes but Smart Hub does not

Run Settings → Support → Device Care → Self Diagnosis → Smart Hub Connection Test, or the closest equivalent on your model. Samsung says this test checks the internet connection, ISP path, Samsung server and app service. If only one app fails, update or reinstall that app before resetting Smart Hub. Our Samsung TV apps diagnostic separates one-app failures from a platform-wide fault.

Check Settings → Support → Software Update. If the TV cannot update online, use the exact model code on Samsung’s Download Center and follow the USB package instructions for that model. Do not install firmware from a similar-looking model number.

Reset Network, Reset Smart Hub, or factory reset?

  1. Reset Network when saved Wi-Fi, router or ISP settings changed.
  2. Reset Smart Hub when Network Status passes but multiple apps or account services fail. Record app logins first.
  3. Factory reset only after the connection tests, hotspot, software update and narrower resets fail.

Reset Smart Hub signs out Samsung and third-party app accounts. A factory reset removes downloaded apps and user settings but may not solve an ISP outage or router compatibility issue. Samsung itself describes factory reset as a last step after other fixes in its internet connectivity guidance.

What to record before contacting support

Photograph Error 107 and Network Status, note the full TV model and software version, record whether the hotspot worked, and list whether all apps or one app failed. Also note the date and time: a service outage that begins simultaneously on several devices is different from a TV that has never joined the router.

Frequently asked questions

Does Error 107 always mean DNS?

No. DNS is only one layer. Read Network Status and compare a hotspot before changing it.

Why does YouTube work while another app shows Error 107?

Basic internet may be working while one app, account or service endpoint fails. Test Smart Hub and the specific app.

Should I factory reset the TV first?

No. Reset Network and Smart Hub are narrower tests and preserve more settings. Use factory reset after the network evidence and updates are exhausted.

Review method

  1. Match the device type and code or message before interpreting the cause.
  2. Start with safe external checks such as cable, filter, hose, airflow, settings, or one restart.
  3. Stop at electricity, gas, water near power, swollen batteries, painful heat, or internal disassembly.
